Equine & Dog Photography
After the initial contact either by telephone or email, I will send over my complete Style Guide, for the horse owners and a little Welcome email for the dog owners, just outlining how the photoshoot will work. We'll arrange a pre shoot consultation to discuss the photoshoot in greater detail as it'll be a great opportunity to catch up and have a lovely informal, friendly chat. You can tell me all about your four legged best friend.
Preparing the for the Session
I'll be on-hand every step of the way to advise on suitable locations particularly if it's a photoshoot with your dog. With some dogs it is better to go to locations they are familiar with as this will help keep them calm and naturally, we want beautiful photos where your dog is relaxed. The key to great dog imagery is having a chilled and relaxed dog just being themselves. Nothing is forced, if your dog doesn't sit to command then please don't worry about it, I won't be. I'll just be happily snapping away capturing your dog's true personality.
With horses, I'll always arrive early to take a look around the grounds and take notes of suitable locations. If I'm meeting you on location somewhere, we'll have a little look around and work with our surroundings so that your horse isn't standing around for too long.
With horse sessions, I can assist with styling so do bring a selection of clothing items - this really is the fun bit! I will cover all this during our consultation.
Sessions can last up to 2 hours but if longer is needed that is perfectly fine, I never rush through a photoshoot. For the dog sessions, it's simply an extended walk in a lovely area and I photograph during that time ensuring that your dog(s) remain calm and relaxed throughout. For action/water shots, I usually leave these until near the end of the session as the majority of portrait images will be complete so your dog can go and get wet, muddy and chase sticks and balls.
For horse sessions then they'll probably be a couple of outfit changes, a chance to grab a cuppa and give your horse a break to ease the boredom where possible, every horse is different. The session itself will generally start around the yard before heading out. It'll move quite fast as not all horses are good at standing still for long periods of time. The most important thing though is just want you to enjoy the time with your horse. This is the most important bit - 'the connection' which is key to beautiful storytelling imagery and if you are fearful of the camera, just cuddle your horse and smile away but most of all relax - this is your story and you've got this and it's going to be fabulous.
After the Session
This is where all the magic begins. Your images are safely backed up on several devices. I then start the editing process by going through the images and selecting the ones to edit that I will present to you in your final gallery. Once your gallery is ready, I will invite you to make an appointment to come and view your beautiful photos so that you can select the one you'd like in the frame. Plus it's a perfect opportunity to see different frame mock-ups to suit your colour palette so you can be sure you've made the right choice. If you'd like to purchase more wall art or products you can make your selections at the meeting BUT there is absolutely no obligation or hard sales to do this.
If you'd prefer, I can send you an online gallery for you to view that way particularly if distance is a factor or time critical. You can then view them at your leisure within a 4 week period.
