Cheshire Horse Photoshoot with Debbie Jones Dressage and Her Horses, Frisco and Frodo
Every photoshoot is special in its own way, but this one meant a great deal to me personally. I’ve known Debbie Jones Dressage for quite a few years, and not only is she a talented competitive dressage rider and List 1 Dressage judge, but she’s also someone I’ve had the pleasure of learning from myself. When I had my horse, Ollie, I had some really valuable lessons with Debbie, so it was lovely to be able to turn the tables and create something special for her.
This was the first of two photoshoots I’ve now done with Debbie, and on this particular day we photographed her horses Frisco and Frodo. Frisco is a retired Hanoverian Grand Prix dressage horse who achieved so much in his career, and Frodo, a Westphalian Warmblood, was her exciting upcoming dressage youngster at the time. To see both horses side by side really showed the different stages of a rider’s journey — the wisdom and experience of a schoolmaster, alongside the promise and potential of a new partner.
The day of the shoot in Northwich, Cheshire was beautifully sunny and bright. While strong sunshine can sometimes be a challenge, we made the most of the golden light and created some truly memorable images. My aim was to capture Debbie’s relationship with both horses — the respect, the affection, and the quiet bond that goes far beyond competition.
Looking back, this photoshoot wasn’t just about photographs, but about celebrating milestones in Debbie’s journey as a rider and horsewoman. Frisco had already given her so much through his career, and Frodo represented new goals and adventures ahead. It was a real privilege to be able to tell that story through my camera.
Equine photoshoots like this one are a beautiful way to preserve memories, whether it’s with a once-in-a-lifetime horse, a promising youngster, or simply the four-legged friends who mean the world to us.
