How to Make Any Livery Yard Look Picture-Perfect for Photos
Capturing Beauty at a Livery Yard: Serena & Her Horse in the New Forest
Not every horse owner has access to perfect backdrops but that doesn’t mean your photoshoot can’t be stunning. I spent a morning with Serena and her horse at a livery yard in the New Forest, turning everyday surroundings into a gallery of beautiful, heartfelt images.
Making the Most of a Livery Yard
Even when stables, paddocks and yards aren’t naturally picturesque, angles, lighting and focus on the horse bring the magic. Close-up shots, textures of wood and hay, and candid moments make every image unique. Plus if there is a quiet driveway or lane we can always get some photos there as well utilising space and a different backdrop.
Tips for Livery Yard Shoots
Scout the space: Look for corners, doors, paddocks, or textured walls that work as backdrops.
Use natural light: Morning or late afternoon sun softens shadows and highlights the horse’s coat.
Keep it relaxed: Horses perform best when the session feels calm and fun.
Whether your horse is at a local yard or a picturesque paddock across the UK, I travel everywhere to capture natural, timeless photos. Every environment has potential, it’s just a matter of seeing it through the lens. I’ve often had clients that tell me there yard isn’t particularly photogenic. There are hidden gems in most places, so please don’t worry.
I continue to travel across the UK capturing horses in their own environments. If you’ve been thinking about a photoshoot at your yard, I’d love to hear from you.
