The Elephant in the Room: Let’s Talk About Photography Pricing

Every so often, I receive a lovely enquiry about a pet or equine photoshoot. I reply with details about the experience, the beautiful products available afterwards, and of course, my pricing. Then… silence. No acknowledgement, no “thank you,” no “not right now.”

And you know what? That’s okay. I understand that investing in professional photography is a big decision — and for some, the timing simply isn’t right.

But I also know that, sometimes, people aren’t aware of exactly what goes into a professional dog or horse photography session, or why it’s priced the way it is. So today, I’m pulling back the curtain and sharing what you’re really investing in when you book a session with me.

1. The Photoshoot Experience

From the moment you enquire, my goal is to make your experience as relaxed and enjoyable as possible — for you and for your horse or dog.
We’ll choose the perfect location, plan for the best light of the day, and work at a pace that keeps your animal comfortable and happy. I’ll guide you every step of the way so there’s no need to worry about posing or whether your dog will “behave” — it’s all part of the fun.

I photograph across Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and the wider Midlands, and I’m happy to travel anywhere in the UK for a photoshoot (as well as overseas when the opportunity arises).

2. Years of Experience and Skill

I’ve spent years specialising in equine photography, dog portraiture, and rural lifestyle photography.  I know how to read an animal’s body language, how to get their ears forward without stress, and how to adapt if the weather changes or they have an unexpected burst of energy.
This expertise means I can work efficiently and creatively, capturing genuine moments you’ll treasure forever.

3. The Art After the Shoot

Once the session is over, the work is only just beginning. I carefully select the very best images, then hand-edit each one with precision — adjusting light, colour, and fine details to bring out the personality and beauty of your horse or dog. This process takes hours, but it’s what ensures every final image meets my high standards.

4. Premium Products Made to Last

Your photographs deserve more than to sit on a phone or in a forgotten folder.  I offer premium wall art, albums, and prints — all crafted using archival-quality materials designed to last for decades. These aren’t just “pictures” — they’re heirlooms you can enjoy every day in your home and pass down through generations.

5. The Emotional Value

Photographs become more valuable over time. They’re a way to freeze a moment, a season, or a chapter in your life that you can never get back.
Whether it’s your dog bounding through a field or your horse nuzzling your shoulder, these are the memories that will make you smile years from now — even after the moment itself has passed.

In the End…

My prices reflect the care, expertise, and artistry that go into every stage of your experience — from our first conversation to the moment you hang your finished artwork at home.

If now isn’t the right time for you, I completely understand. But when the time comes, I’ll be here to help you create something truly special — something worth cherishing for a lifetime.

If you’d like to know more about my equine photography sessions, dog photography experiences, or how I work with clients across the Midlands and UK, just get in touch. I’m always happy to chat, even if you’re only at the “thinking about it” stage.
