Boston Terrier Photoshoot at Elvaston Country Park | Edna’s Dog Photography Session
Some dog photoshoots stay with you forever, and Edna’s was one of those.
Edna was my first-ever Boston Terrier client, and even now, years later, this session still makes me smile. We met on a cold, drizzly day at Elvaston Country Park, one of my favourite Derbyshire locations for dog photography. The weather wasn’t particularly inviting but as any dog owner knows, dogs don’t care about drizzle, and neither do I.
From the moment Edna arrived, her personality shone through.
Boston Terriers are full of character, and Edna was no exception. She loved exploring, charging about the park, and making the most of her walk which is exactly how I approach my dog photography sessions. There’s no pressure, no forced poses, and absolutely no expectation for dogs to behave perfectly.
A Relaxed Approach to Dog Photography
This photoshoot is a great example of how I work with dogs of all breeds and temperaments.
Rather than trying to control every moment, I let dogs be dogs. We walk, we pause, we play, and I photograph what naturally unfolds. That’s how genuine expressions happen – ears flapping, muddy paws, inquisitive sniffs and joyful movement.
Even though my photography style has evolved over the years, the heart of this session remains the same as it does today: capturing dogs enjoying themselves.
Most clients don’t worry about technical details like composition. What matters to them is seeing their dog’s personality reflected in the images and that never goes out of date.
Don’t Worry About the Weather
One of the biggest concerns dog owners have before a photoshoot is the weather. Edna’s session is proof that you don’t need sunshine for beautiful dog photographs.
Overcast skies create soft, flattering light, and a little drizzle often means quieter locations and more relaxed dogs. Elvaston Country Park worked perfectly for this session, offering open spaces, trees for shelter, and plenty for Edna to explore.
Why I’m Still Sharing This Session
I love sharing older sessions like this because they show more than just images as they show experience.
I’ve worked with dogs of all shapes, sizes and personalities over the years and every session adds to that understanding. Whether your dog is energetic, nervous, older or somewhere in between, my aim is always the same: to create a calm, enjoyable experience and images you’ll treasure.
Edna’s photoshoot may have taken place in 2020, but the joy, movement and connection captured that day are timeless.
If you’re considering a dog photography session and want something relaxed, natural and focused on your dog simply having fun, I’d love to hear from you.
Edna’s session captured every jaunty tilt and curious sparkle, proof that a little patience and lots of treats make for timeless, joyful portraits. To book your dog’s carefree, no-pressure photoshoot, contact TMS Photography and let’s create those honest, characterful images together.
