Celebrating the Bond: Arya the American Quarter Horse and Her Human
Capturing Arya: A Stunning American Quarter Horse in the UK
When Keri booked me for a photoshoot of her beautiful bay American Quarter Horse, Arya, she made it clear she didn’t want to be in any of the photos. And that was completely fine. My focus was on Arya and her unique personality, bringing out the elegance and charm of a breed I’ve always admired.
This was my very first photoshoot with an American Quarter Horse, and I have to say, I absolutely fell in love. Growing up, I was mesmerised by US horse shows and western riding, dreaming of seeing it all in Montana one day. So working with Arya was a dream come true, even right here in the UK in a little hamlet of Abbots Oak, Leicestershire.
Partway through the shoot, I checked with Keri to make sure she was still happy to stay behind the camera. After some professional guidance and careful thought, she decided to join in, luckily, she had some western gear in her car! The session became a beautiful collaboration, capturing the natural bond between horse and human in a way that felt effortless and authentic.
Arya and Keri occasionally compete in western shows across the UK, and you can see the confidence and partnership that shines through in these images. The results speak for themselves—timeless, heartfelt portraits that truly celebrate their connection.
Keri kindly shared some lovely words after the shoot: “the photos are stunning and I am struggling to choose my favourites. Also, I’m so glad I did actually have some photos with Arya as I really did enjoy it as you made it all so comfortable and nothing was forced.”
If you’re a Quarter Horse owner, western rider, or simply want to capture your horse in a way that tells your unique story, I’d love to help create these special moments for you too.
