A Boy and His Ponies – Jake’s Heartwarming Pony Photoshoot with Susan and Rascal

There’s nothing quite like the connection between a child and their ponies. It’s full of trust, friendship, and countless hours spent together, from early mornings at the yard to adventures in the paddock. A few years ago, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Jake and his two wonderful ponies, Susan and Rascal, and it was such a joy to capture their bond.

Jake was full of energy, grinning from ear to ear as we explored the fields together. Susan, his sensible pony, stood patiently while Jake gave her a big cuddle and she was clearly his steady favourite. Rascal, true to his name, had a cheeky sparkle in his eye and kept us all laughing throughout the shoot! Between the giggles, treats and a few muddy moments, we created a collection of images that really told their story; a boy and his ponies, growing up together.

It’s amazing to think that five years have passed since that session. Jake will have outgrown his ponies by now, but those photographs remain a beautiful reminder of a very special chapter in his life. That’s what I love about these sessions, they freeze a moment in time that children (and parents!) can look back on for years to come.
