A Quiet Kind of Love: Rachel & Reggie’s Equine Photoshoot in Derbyshire

Some horses leave a mark that never really fades.

Reggie was one of those horses.

When Rachel and Reggie prepared for their photoshoot in Hartshorne, just outside Swadlincote, there was an immediate sense of ease between them. The kind that doesn’t need asking for attention or control, it’s simply there, built over time through quiet routines and shared days.

Reggie, a sprightly Thoroughbred cross, had a presence that was both gentle and full of life. The kind of horse who clearly enjoyed his work but even more so, enjoyed his person.

This wasn’t about grand gestures or perfectly posed moments.

Rachel told me how much she loved their time hacking out together those slower, uninterrupted moments away from everything else. And that’s exactly what I wanted to reflect in their photographs.

Not just how things looked, but how they felt.

We kept everything simple and true to Rachel’s style.

Her first outfit, a beautiful tweed jacket paired with jeans and ankle boots felt timeless and perfectly suited to the setting. For the second, she changed into a more relaxed look with a gilet, long boots keeping that same effortless, countryside feel.

Nothing felt overdone or staged. Just small moments, gentle guidance and space for them to be themselves.

Six months later, Reggie passed away.

And these photographs quietly became something more.

They hold the way he looked at her. The way he stood beside her. The connection that can’t be recreated once it’s gone.
